The Artists Association of Nantucket was founded over 75 years ago as one of the original artists colony groups in North America. When the sole gallery on-island closed in 1943, a visionary patron led the transformation of an abandoned whaling-era warehouse into a gallery space on the Island’s Straight Wharf. The Association was formed several years later in 1945 and to this day, their mission remains dedicated to supporting the over 200 local artists and promoting the visual arts of Nantucket. The AAN is the only organization to offer year-round art-focused educational programs serving toddler-age through adulthood. Their thoughtfully curated permanent collection of over 1,600 works covers the modern century from the art colony roots of the 1920s to artists active today.
The AAN began banking with Hingham in 2013 and has appreciated the full-service support they receive and the level of comfort they have with their banking team. In addition to the banking relationship, Hingham has been a supportive partner to the organization over the years. The Bank’s participation in the AAN’s Main Street Live initiative elevates the visibility of local artwork by showcasing pieces in the windows of the Bank’s Main Street location.
