Nonprofit • HIFS Customer since 2013Why They Chose Hingham
With roots dating back to the early 1920s, the Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN) is a cornerstone of the island’s vibrant art scene. In 1943, when the island’s only gallery closed, a visionary patron stepped in. They transformed an abandoned whaling warehouse on Straight Wharf into a new gallery space. A few years later, in 1945, the AAN was officially formed.
The AAN’s mission remains steadfast: to champion local artists and nurture the island’s artistic heritage. They provide year-round art education programs for all ages, from toddlers to adults. Their permanent collection, boasting over 1,600 works, offers a captivating journey through Nantucket’s artistic evolution, spanning from the 1920s art colony movement to contemporary artists.
The AAN began banking with Hingham in 2013 and has appreciated the full-service support they receive and the level of comfort they have with their banking team. In addition to the banking relationship, Hingham has been a supportive partner to the organization over the years. The Bank’s participation in the AAN’s Main Street Live initiative elevates the visibility of local artwork by showcasing pieces in the windows of the Bank’s Main Street location.
